Behind solid pitching and clutch hitting this past weekend, the Rockies proved their doubters wrong. Like every team in the NL West besides the Giants, the Padres have a losing record at home. Kemp has rebounded back to the hitter that was a key part of the Dodgers' lineup for years. Unlike Myers, Kemp hasn't needed an unsustainable BABIP to post good numbers and may even be due for a BABIP normalization that will hopefully happen after this series. Sadly for the Padres an average rotation is the best part of their squad. Really Bad: Lineup Rockies fans have some bad memories of what this lineup did at Coors Field earlier this season, but outside of those first two games where the Padres scored 29 runs, they have averaged fewer than three runs per game. Matt Kemp and Wil Myers are the only two San Diego regulars who have been above average offensively. Really Really Bad: Bullpen A team can be successful with an average rotation like the Padres have, but it can't be backed up with one of the worst bullpens in baseball for it to happen. Who to watch: Pitcher Cesar Vargas is quite an interesting story, The Padres signed the minor league free agent after the Yankees released him instead of adding him to their 40-man roster, then surprisingly gave him a major league contract. Vargas had good numbers as a reliever in the Yankees' upper farm system, but the Padres immediately turned him into a starter with some very nice numbers in Double-A before he received a call-up to the big league squad as an injury replacement. Since then, Vargas has made two starts with mixed results.
